vitamins and protien

The protein levels are important but do not get too hung up on them as you will find with the right diet you can achieve the right level very easily. 20% plus protein is achieved with a simple diet over a 7 day average and remember all diets are averages not a daily protein count. So a good diet for mature peafowl looks like this

A good quality whole grain (all day every day)
A good quality shell grit or oyster shell (all day every day)
Dark leaf vegetables such as cos lettuce and silver beet (every second day)
A good quality dry cat food (Protein (min): 30.0%) (Every second day)
I use Vip Gourmet (made in Australia)
Protein 30%
Crude Fibre 3%
Fat 12%
Salt 1%
Diced bread (every second day)
Diced fruit in spring and summer (every third day)

I changed to this diet many years back after talking with Peacocks Australia and reading his web site I can tell you without a doubt it improved all the peafowl’s health and improved the fertility and number of eggs laid each year.

Do not feed them raw meats such as beef or especially pork products very, very bad idea.

Its a ripper diet Colin thanks to my old mate PA. Your welcome SWS yes there is a lot here to read may take you a few years but worth all the reading.

Thankfully i have a life time of learning in front of me!
apart from meat, is there any thing else i should stay away from???
and re: the vitamin bit mentioned earlier,,, is that any old human multi vitamin?

FP, why should you stay away from raw meats? and why pork in particular? surely you know that in the wild they eat lizards, small snakes ect... :?:

No you have to use avian multi vitamins and follow the directions and don't give it to them every day

Have you ever seen a peafowl chase down and eat a pig? Natural food are fine not processed HIGH fat rubbish like bacon, anyone that feeds bacon to birds is an idiot and should not have birds.
