I need to put a hen down due to age but would like to know the kindest way to do it please. I don't want to use an axe so it needs to be quick and humane please

For adult poultry the quickest (surest) way is an axe. There are other ways which are less messy but they are probably more for our benefit.

before installing my cone for head removal , i use to cull per pulling neck sharply down with a sideways twist , same method as used on rabbits . gary

GUYS GUYS!!!! we are dealing with someone that has a dilemma here = this bird is obviously loved - lets not scare the poor person too much!!!

Buffalo wings = take the bird to the Vet and ask them to give her the needle = quick painless and oh so dignified for an old grand dame of the chook world – then she can have a nice little grave at home somewhere nice – perhaps in the shade of a tree?

I took her to the vet to be euthanized it cost a little but worth it. Thank you for the help and support I was very attached to her

I can't use the axe on my chooks just dont have the stomach for it so I get a friend to do it

sad for you but pleased at the same time as now she is resting and your memories of her finished with a dignified and painless end
