Your right Watson96, here we congratulate and thank breeders like PA for their hard work and efforts and then look forward to the opportunity of buying some in the future. I think a little green eyed monster may be amongst us  Menil your comments are not worthy of a responce .

As I suspected no name or details of this "genetics expert" [smilie=a_chuckle.gif] Phantom sounds like a good name [smilie=a_chuckle.gif] [smilie=a_chuckle.gif]

Anyway back to the real world, I'm with you Watson & Texas I can't wait to get my hands on them. The yellows will take pride of place here I have already started the new aviary :-D I am dividing it into two so I will have pied & yellows side by side then reds on both side of them, I have it all planned and under way a_bravo.gif

Ready when you are pa :-D

Quote: Birdkeeper Magazine [ Dr Terry Martin BVSc Terry closely studied parrot genetics and mutations. He is recognised worldwide as a leading authority on colour mutations and genetics—his book published by ABK Publications is known as the ‘bible’ on avian genetics. Terry consults on these aspects of articles published in Australian BirdKeeper Magazine ]

Ok so as we suspected a parrot geneticist ;)

So can we get back to talking about PHEASANT genetics and I have had the last sidesplit.gif turkey.gif

I can talk about PHEASANT mutations as much as you like . Pheasant mutations parrot mutations or sweet pea mutations the basic principles are all the same. Banded Pied DOMINANT MUTATION Yellow Golden RECESSIVE MUTATION and as such they will never be the same mutation.

Got your pm sidesplit.gif

I think a few may be building new aviaries or rearranging old one in preparation for pieds and yellows. I spoke to a mate tonight and he has heard about pa's pieds and yellows through the pheasant club so word has spread fast. I told me to join here ;)

I will sell one of my pairs of normal golden pheasants so I can get the pied pair in their old cage. I would love to get the yellows strait away but I don't think I will be able to afford both but I am franticly saving money right now so fingers crossed their not too expensive

You should expect that the price be higher for the initial release but it will eventually come down and settle at a reasonable level. It has happened here many times when you want to get at ground level. Just remember if you have these mutations side by side to have some partition or gap between them especially if they are not related

Guys,
Hate to spoil your party but Menil's comments re genetics is 100% correct. There is no difference between pheasant genetics and the genetics of any other species- it is the method by which the mutation in question is inherited that is important.

If you think he is wrong, why don't you ask any qualified geneticist anywhere in the world.

Anyway, let's just agree to disagree. :)

We are ALL waiting for this new mutation to become established and wish PA all the best. Whether banded or golden yellow, they are both stunning mutations, and when the time is right hopefully we'll all have the chance to keep them.

Happy pheasant keeping to all

Parvo
