Swedish standard

Does anyone have a copy of the Swedish duck standard?

I have some youngsters here as pets and thinking I may enter 1 or 2 at the Royal seeing as I will be penning a lot of birds (hopefully) anyway.

Thats one of the reasons I want the standard Stuart,so I can work out what their colours are. 1 is black though

well from what i no 2 colours are reconized the blue and the black both with the white patch on the breast

hi b&p ,
the only standard i can find is for the blue swedish,

BLUE SWEDISH

standards ,
carriage .should be about 25 degress, the body should be long,the head should be green-black with no brown feathering, and the white bib should begin at the front, below the bill and should form a neat circle just above the breast , the feathers covering the body should be blue,laced finely inblack, the primeries should be white,the legs should be brownish orange, the ducks bill color should be blue and the drakes green with a black bean,

weight, drake, 3.7 kgs duck, 3.2kgs

serious defects,
bib to large to small or broken, no white primaries or to many white primaries , white patches throughout body color , brown feathers

current status,
good blue swedish are rare,

Thanks Jase,thats a start.

There should be a pic of one of the "ducklings" up in the photo comp soon as admin does it.

I thought it was a blue but someone told me it was a splash. Think I have pics of the other 2 as well goofing around in the comp.

Will try and track down a woman I know that use to breed them and see if she has a standard.

And my black is no good as way to much white bib.

Well one is a silver colour Drayllor and the other is what I would call blue but has black through it (splash) I am guessing.

Now I would personally call he silver a blue (maybe to much time with Polish) and the "splash" splash BUT I was told that the silver is a splash and the "splash" is actually a blue.

However having darker feathers through the bird instantly is splash to me.

Are you confused yet,cause I am. LOL

I have a pic of the "silver" with wings outstretched in the photo comp if that helps and have put 1 or 2 in this thread and sent more to be put into my album.

These guys are reportedly from a good Tas line and I certainly didn't intend on showing them but if I am taking over 20 chooks to the royal I see no point in taking a duck or 2 as well for a bit of fun.

Silver is a very light even shade of blue/white, & is genetically a double dose of blue. Splash, also genetically a double dose of blue, is likely to be white splashed with light silver/grey pigment. Both splash & silver are the same genetically except for how the colour expresses & here other factors are likely involved.

Blue birds have only one dose of the blue gene, so will be blue, varying shades depending on other factors also. Because blue is incompletely dominant, some of the underlying black does leak through in places, hence the small black specks/splotches in feather.

It does sound like your "splash" is a blue (with the black specks/splotches leaking). You could test the theory if so inclined by test mating your blue to a black bird. If all progony are blue then your blue is a splash/silver. But if some progony are black then he/she is a blue.

Basically, silver & splashed birds should be much lighter than blues.

Edited to add, your pictures have just appeared, main pictured bird is a blue, the one I can just see bits of looks like a silver/splash.
