get a pot, open a passionfruit, suck some pulp off some of the seeds and spit them into the pot, scrape the rest of the seeds intot the pot.

put it under a shade tree and wait for the seedlings to sprout

when you plant into the chook yard - - plant some on the inside and some on the outside - the ones on the inside will need a wire guard to protect from the chooks - the ones on the outside - plant more than a necks length away and don't connect to the chook wire until they are about a metre tall

I planted two passionfruit vines - one in our house yard and one next to one of my chook runs.

The one in the back yard is doing really well. The one near the chook run died. I had a guard around it, and watered it, and fed it. Maybe it didn't like the dead bodies I kept burying around it. :-?

I thought they liked lots of nutrients, so I buried two chicks and a magpie near it (they all died of natural causes, in case you're worried). I might try again!

Yeah Passionfruit can be grown easily. I had passionfruit growing from our compost heap and they just went nuts, we got rid of them after a while (started getting tedious and annoying). But I might start growing them again. Chooks love them.

I throw rotten passionfruit into the garden. THey sprout, I dig them out (water well before digging, and after transplanting, don't do it on a really hot day, prepare the soil etc, etc.) when they have about three or four full leaves, and move them wherever I want them.

I have grown red and yellow Panama varieties this way. The chooks love them, passionfruit are heavy feeders and love chook poo (although if you put a lot of hot manure on anything it may burn it). Also try Grenadilla if you are anywhere near the tropics, they have a very showy flower

If you grow a grafted black variety, be careful where you put it. The rootstock of some plants can run take over, and I have had the plant come up as a weed where it was not wanted.

One small weed bush behind a shed adjacent to the run went a little crazy, so i chopped it down, but one inside the run, has survived the onslaught of the chooks and is growing well, i will train this to grow the way i like.

Thanks for the tip about the rotten passion fruits, will definitely try that.
The main vine has just started to grow some.

Can you grow passionfruit vines in cooler areas? I live in an area that frosts fairly bad in winter sometimes and have wondered whether I would be wasting my time with them. :roll:

We used to grow the Nelly Kelly black passionfruit variety back in the old days when I lived in Melbourne, and we had some frosts, though maybe not as severe as outback NSW. However the rootstock could be invasive, but as I said, that was some time ago and rootstocks may have changed. Check with your local nursery.

I grew nelly kelly and banana passionfruit in Canberra years ago

If they die off from frost - just make sure you start seedlings under cover and plant out when the frost finish - you'll get at least 3 months of passionfruit each year from doing that
