wastage of chick starter

AAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHH :!:

Do you guys know how hard it is to find these chick feeders or even the plastic ones that only take 1.5kg. All I can get are the plastic ones that take 3kg. :shock:

For a brooder I don't thonk so

Thanks PA. I go there from time to time for stuff for my dogs. Never thought the chooks. I will try next week as too busy this weekend.

Most produce stores stock them. And some pet care warehouses that cater for exotics.

All the produce around here only have 3kg upwards and they are tooooooo big for the brooders. I haven't been able to get a smaller on yet.

Obviously none of you have Bunya nut fetish's

4 Inch pots in a 6 Inch tray for the brooder
6 Inch pots in an 8 Inch tray once they go into the grower pens
I thought everyone did that , it must be just us greenies :lol:

with to many old pots lying around.
works a treat the pots are a good size to hold a good amount of starter and the drainage holes are just right for letting out the starter /grain.
We use commercial ones but the pots work just as well and are free .

I feel so stupid not thinking of that. I use the heavy clay saucers for them and I tried to work out how I could set a tin can in that with some holes but couldn't get the flow right. :oops:

Never even thought of using a plant pot. :oops:

One would have to use the plastic ones due to the holes being on the side. Do they knock them over at all and should I glue it to the saucer or just hope for the best.

Never say Never , but.... mine never knock them over , I have thought about glueing the trays to the bottom of the pots but theirs really no need , keep them full and as they grow they learn to eat from the top of the pot , then we step up to the next size pot .
when the pots get really dirty they go back to the nursery and I get a new one .
I have thought about elaborating them a bit and haning them off the ground with the glued tray idea ,since your the handy person :lol:

maybe you could do a few as trials . :lol:
