Our Dusty Plymouth Rock has bumblefoot on her feet. She has a nasty one on one toe and another smaller ones on her other toes.

She is booked in at the vet tomorrow to have them surgically treated as one is really swollen and looking nasty.

Has anyone had any success treating this without surgery. It seems she is prone to it.

I have been giving her a soaking of warm water with Epsom salts and then betadine. Then dressing with gauze and vet wrap.

You know my Lacey had this but I had no idea it was Bumblefoot. conf665

I picked the scab off and squeezed the gunk out and just kept cleaning it and squeezing the gunk out and now it's gone. :-D

I must admit though I think I got it early as it wasn't a very big scab on her foot and it went away within about a week or so max.

I think it's treatable without a vet.

Is it coincidence that there's two posts exactly the same conf665

Is this a seasonal affliction for our little feathered babies?

Cheers
Chicka-Dee

Can you please post photos of Dusty's Bumblefoot, I am curious as to how Bumblefoot actually presents it's self.

Thank you, kindly 52.gif

Get well soon Dusty.

Hello PP,
Dusty has returned from the vet and her toe had some of the dead skin removed. I will get a photo after Monday as she's had her foot bandaged and she's in the cat carrier to limit movement. She needs antibiotics too.

Was it expensive if you don't mind me asking?

Would you have any before surgery photos of the bumblefoot? After surgery ones would be appreciated too.

Is the vet very eggspensive?

Good luck with the recovery Dusty!

Not too bad I thought. The consultation was $37.50, the antibiotics were $32 and dressings were $5.50. Last week I put down my favourite chookie and it was $39.50 including the consultation.

Thank you PP, sorry no photos of the before, but I can take a photo when the dressings come off on Monday when we visit the vet again.

Dusty seems to be happy enough, not showing any signs of ill health. Eating well and taking her meds like a big girl
