It doesn't take 10 year to arrange a dozen local eggs from a cross hen to be sent to you. If you were to buy a dozen or 4 dozen eggs from a breeder here that where from 'show stock' then I bet you would ask to see some pictures first as I have done

With only 1 import MAYBE? 2 and thats it for now (until the new import syndicate) there's allot riding on what comes in and the quality MUST be high, or its an opportunity missed bigtime. If you get dud eggs or dud chicks (dud chicks being pet quality) from local eggs you can very easily replace them and with little cost you cannot with imported eggs you are stuck with them and selling them may be difficult if they are poor quality, so yes very different.

I would most definitely do my research first, but it is still a large chance you take, that you are getting what the seller says you are getting, and that applies to the imports & locals.
I have seen heaps of "wanted adds" on the internet where people are asking to purchase eggs off people that are happy to pay for express postage across country, and some people are going to have to take the chance that they are what the seller says they are, unless they can physically go and view the bird themselves laying the egg & put into carton & handed to you.

Lets face it, they haven't created the phrase "buyer beware" because, "beware you're going to be so lucky with what you bought". No. It's because if you are taking any kind of chance then there is a larger portion of faith that you have to put out there that you are going to get what you asked for.

All I'm really saying in the end is that I really don't see how this game of chance is any different then the one we take everyday when dealing with unknown parties.


I don't agree. I have seen a lot of adds on the Internet where angry people have posted adds warning other people (local & interstate) about dodgy egg sellers, and they weren't able to get any recourse. I've also seen on forums where people have stated that they don't think it's the sellers responsibility to replace eggs if there is a 100% failure rate when incubating & hatching eggs. Which could definitely be debated but not totally an unfair comment.

* Who knows what happened to the eggs during the posting process
* Did the buyer incubate them correctly
* Was the temperature right
* Was the humidity right
* Were they even fertile?

I get your point Fowlman about the quality issue, but I have talked to people who have driven hundreds of Klm's out of their way to get chickens or eggs off sellers, only to find out what was advertised is not what was actually for sale. And those people came away with nothing, but spent a great deal of time & money for no return. I'm just asking how is this syndicate thing any different to what happens to people on an everyday basis any different. So far all I can garner out of the comments is "cost", "time" & "quality". I just really don't see this as any different than what we all have to factor in now.

So many variables when you are dealing with eggs, and sellers of eggs that like the main topic says "don't be too quick to knock the imports". As I see it, these people who are importing are just trying to get some new blood into the breeding circle. Whether we "get more than we bargained for" as fowlman said then only time will tell, and yes I agree there most probably is "a lot riding on it", but these guys are just giving you an option to buy. It's up to the buyer if they want to take the risk and if you don't want to take risk, then don't. Simple.

Spend $3000 plus on eggs from fowl sight unseen then you will see the difference, there is no comparison between a local market and an import market with fertile eggs, seriously NONE at all.

But you have to take that into account when you want to compare local eggs and eggs from the UK, you asked --- How is this any different? well that is one very very very big way.

Would you buy and pay thousands of $$$ for alleged show fowl fertile eggs without knowing the breeder? without seeing the parent in person or by pictures? I would not thats for sure I am a little smarter than that.

You are overlooking the fact you can go out anytime and buy fertile eggs locally, next week, next month, next year, the year after ect........ you cannot with imported eggs so if you get it wrong locally oh well just buy some more get it wrong with imports and tuff no options. Do you see the difference?


Really! you cannot see the difference? when the imports end either now or after the possible next one THATS IT for some time NO MORE, THE END but you can get all the local fertile eggs you want ANYTIME do you see the difference now? please give it some more thought.


Its about quality new blood not just new blood which is the whole point

P.s some of the breeds are not new blood but new all together as in not here full stop so we don't want to start a new breed with someones poor culls as a possibility???

Thanks fowlman, I just can't handle the knockers, elsewhere (won't mention where, small forum, little happening), bitching and winging about the whole imports thing so negative about how many and what colours and who gets and who doesn't it's just ridiculous they would be better to just not post, hey? its good to read the support its getting here and the good question raised here, well done to everyone here.

I have read through all the topics here and your right not 1 person has suggested the imports should not have happened and all have clearly supported it BUT we question the quality in the absence of any proof of the stock in the uk. As many have said here time and time again over weeks and months they should have a web site and had ALL the pictures of the source flock for ALL to see its that simple, not well organized in my view, far from it.
