The article is only about sex-linked birds, so that is correct, no split hens.

IF they were recessive then there would be split hens.

Carlise other than using the internet to find snippets can you tell us your experience and genetic study experience with guinea fowl please.

We have been breeding guineas for 4 years, our originals birds were pied pearls. Acquired some lavendars from a local produce shop the next year. The years after we had some pearls walk in from somewhere. Last year we managed to buy a pair of cinnamons.
What I have learnt so far about avian genetics has come from breeding budgies for 10 years, and being involved in the local budgie club and attending their meetings with various different speakers often talking about genetics.

I see your from Elimbah, Qld is that the Sunshine Coast? Have you sold so called splits in the past? Do you claim to have split cinnamon hens?

No cimmamons or splits sold by us. Only pied pearls.
As we only managed to buy some cinnamons last breeding season, we haven't had any to sell.
The person we purchased from has retired from breeding poultry, and we don't know anyone else with cinnamons.

I guess NightMare that your comments are aimed at me.

Not an ex bush budgie breeder, never had bush budgies, and we are still breeding budgies.
By the way "fellow" is spelt "fallow", a very pretty variety of budgie.
I don't beleive I have claimed to know guinea fowl genetics, but have indicated that I feel I have an understanding of avain genetics.
Am very surprised that you beleive that avain genetics don't apply to guinea fowl, what makes them different from the rest of the avian world?

NM is right, Avian genetics are not 1 set of sequence coding or 1 form of inheritance, The term "avian genetics" is so board and is far from specific, the variation of mode of inheritance is vastly different for many bird species not to mention chromosome numbers, intrachromosomal rearrangements, microgenes ect.. and more so with mutations. You cannot apply a "one fits all" it is also the most important of all. So bottom line if you have learnt a little about budgie geno (aka parrot) then that's all you have learnt you do not have an understanding of guinea fowl geno because of this as they are different to budgies, chooks, ducks ect.. more so on the mode of inheritance, microgenes and intrachromosomal rearrangements. This is why we repeatedly say that google searching genetics of duck, budgie and human hair is not the answer as googleboy/girl seems to think it is. Forget about budgie genetics they do not apply here no matter how hard anyone tries to make them fit. Remember a parrot geneticist (qualified) is not a guinea fowl geneticist and I doubt one would claim to be.

Excerpts/info taken from Peacocks Australia's article on "Guinea Fowl Genetics - part1 with approval.

With even the basic modes of inheritande being completely different between budgies and guinea fowl, then maybe it is time to give up trying to understand guinea fowl genetics.
