That is the same I use for my ducklings and goslings its idea as they don't eat it

Just be careful.

The green artificial grass carpet is very difficult to clean properly because of the dense weave.

Just make sure you clean and disinfect it thoroughly and dry it properly before reusing, particularly between batches of chicks.

Ideally, it would be best to have a couple of mats so that you can replace a soiled one immediately and give the dirty one a chance to be cleaned & dried properly.

Otherwise they work well.

Good advice parvo I soak mine in a bucket of warm water and disinfectant between broods because of bacteria

Yep I use both yellow and white sand depending on whats cheapest on the day

In answer to your question "yes" chookies do peck at the sand and have a nibble.
