With my new coop I have been looking at this diamond-mesh instead of using chickens wire so the coop is strong against foxes and dogs but not sure if its suitable for a coop and how hard is it to put up and chickens wire is light and easy

Hello Freechooks. I know what you mean about wanting to have a coop that's fox and dog-proof. That diamond mesh looks solid alright, but what does it cost, and will it rust? I used 25mm galvanised weldmesh sheets, 2metres x 1200 which cost $28 a sheet. It's solid, safe and doesn't rust. Don't pay more than you need to.

I use the diamond mesh or link mesh as we call it very strong no way a fox or dog can get through it and we have 2 rotties that did try at first. Make sure you burry some in the ground so they cannt dig under and they will be safe as houses

No chance we could see a picture of the diamond mesh - link mesh is there? A googlesearch of the names gives a lot of very different kinds.

Our neighbour had a "fox proof" pen and coop, the top was enclosed like a cage and the wire dug into the ground, but didn't deter the local fox that dug under wire and took her poor girls.

That's rotten PP. Do you have any more details about the type of wire used and how it was put on the ground so we can all learn from it?

It was avian mesh like this and dug well into the ground at the base of the pen and coop

PP, I've visited the thread you pointed to and have left a note. You say here that the fox dug under the wire. But that's not what you say on the thread about it. Maybe the problem wasn't the wire at all.

The thread was last year, she eventually after further investigation did find a 20cm hole at the back of the coop, no one had looked there.

Her property is not directly near the bush, but ours is. We have lots of foxes in our area since the bushfires, they come morning, noon, and night and anytime in between.

Oh, okay. Looking at the stiff wire she used I suppose a fox could have made its way under that a little way. That's the end of my idea of putting an 18" wide stiff weldmesh apron pegged to the ground to park the tractor on overnight then, and back to making a small concrete slab to park it on. Bloody foxes!
