Alright, I have asked about this in another topic got some good answers, looked every where they still say the same things:

1. Put a perch in your cage right at the top in a little corner the rooster will stretch his neck out but won't stretch far enough to crow..
Problem?: the cage isn't designed for this
2. everywhere people say put him in a bok where he can't stand, he has to sit.
Problem: he can crow sitting down
3. put him in a box where light can't get in
Problem: the only place I'm allowed to put him is near the hens... the hens practically tell him to crow
(I think, I can't speak fluent chooken...)
how can you stop a rooster who can sit crowing? he only needs to be quiet at night, do you need a chooken muffler???
please help before he does the magic act of turning from a rooster to a roaster...
:)

Hello, Buffy,

Are they any predators lurking in the wee small hours that could set him off?

Does he crow at the full moon, our former rooster used to find his voice at full moon and his concubine would cackle rather eery, they went wave.gif wave.gif before the ranger could take him away.
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16710

Are there any sources of light situated near the coop to confuse him differentiating from day and night?

I think that is has already been mentioned but can you put him and his favourite concubine in a cage together with some food and water in a shed with ventilation, cover the cage with a dark coloured cloth so it is nice and dark and then let them out at a decent hour say after 8 am.

You could find a chook whisperer who can have a stern word or two in "fluent chooken" ;) and warn the lad that he be someone's dinner.

gluck.gif roosters sort of grow on you and you become attached to them and it is so terribly hard when they don't conform and have to go wave.gif wave.gif

thanks, although we lock him in the shed some light goes in and gets him crowing... we put him in an old bin of mum's hich doesn't let too much light in - or snakes..... my last chook died from a snake :( :( [smilie=a_cry.gif] [smilie=a_damnit.gif] .. a week before; we found it's younger brother (who is still quite large) in the shed why my rooster sleeps... so we aren't going to let him walk around all night in it.
and yes my grandma has tried chooken whispering... she said she would wave the axe in front of him.. oh well, he will turn from chooken to cooken if the neighbours get angry...
and he doesn't crow on full moons only he crows everday... 3:00, 6:00,8:00,10:00,3:00,4:00 and then from 5 to six some times..
oh well i'll keep searching, Thanks again :)

My cockatiel used have night frights when she first got home and start screeching in the middle of the night and would continue until morning  The more I handled her, we built up trust and her anxiety lessened and gradually her night frights and screeching stopped. We also covered her cage with black lawn cotton, a dark fabric which was still breathable.

Your Coco really only needs to STOP his 3:00am crowing, maybe he is alerting you and warning the others that there are snakes and other predators around thinkerg.gif So maybe if he felt safe and secure, then maybe he would stop his attention seeking behaviour???

alright If I can be reminded by myself, tomorrow I will build him a better roo box, I will post pics when finished... how should I measure it?/ what should be the dimentions? just a dark square box? or separate compartments on the end for his tail feathers to grow and for his comb not to be hurt?... I will be making it out of wood (5 or 9 ply), some fly screenwith black cloth over it, some weather board and some tin... any kind of plansthat you know of?

oh yes, my rooster, he is a very tame rooster but to me only, he doesn't mind humans and is rather like a semi-flying guinea pig, except he won't run away when you put him down... he is very tolerant with me and feels completely safe with me, although when I left him today(not in his bin, but in his cage) he started doing the danger call, I went back up and he stopped. he could be spooked of something...

Maybe he's a little confused and is in love with you or has he separation anxiety?

Hi, Buffy,

BFLF maybe right with separation anxiety and possibly there is something he is scared of, does he have a female mate that he can roost with at night so he isn't feeling lonely?

Just Google "Rooster Night Box" and some examples will come up in "Images" and search from there.
