Speaking of interpretation of the Standard, I have always thought that AOV meant any other variety recognized by the Standard but not provided with it's own separate class at a show.

Has AOV become any colour combination under the sun, although it may not comply with the description of a variety in the standard?

Strictly speaking, AOV does only apply to Any Other "Recognised" Variety that does not have a breed class in the schedule for that particular show.
A class for AOC, (Any Other Colour) is where an Off or New colour should be shown where AOC classes are provided under that breed heading. However if no AOC class is provided but the breed is catered for with accepted colour/variety classes then any that do not conform to that breed standard should not be shown.
I have been unable to show my Malays at times where no breed class is provided nor is there a class for AOV Game.
However it has become common practice to accept unrecognised breeds or varieties in the AOV classes, particularly if they are recognised overseas, to give the exhibitors an opportunity to show/exhibit thier fowls and get them out before the public and to get feed back from more experienced exhibitors.
Some clubs are reluctant to decline these entries in times where it can be difficult to fill a pavilion and any/all entry moneys are welcome.
Some clubs now also provide a class for "exhibition/display only" classes to cater to the needs of exhibitors. You will usually find an enthusiast in that club has requested the class to enable them to display thier fowls.
Generally you will find judges will not bring forward an off colour or new breed /variety for Major awards but will give an honest opinion as to quality and progress of any breeding programme so no major harm or damage is done by having these fowls on display.

well put Oaklands

exhibiton/display classes are becoming quite popular - especially as so many colours/re-developed breeds did not make it into the 2nd Edition of the APS

some Clubs even supply Champion and Reserve Champion awards for these classes - stating in their schedules that only the APS standard colour classes are elegible for Best in Show

BUT specialty Club Breed Shows may want to consider allowing every Champion regardless of colour to be elegible as it is a breed specific show - lots of the 'die-hards' and those that 'only show for the awards' and some 'old timers' would scream bloody murder at this statement - but this IS 2012 not 1950

have lit a match again sidesplit.gif

I am a fan of the AOV because its all our opportunity to get a first glimpse of new varieties on the way and I see no problem with the class, just my view on the subject.

Q: is A.O.C.the same as A.O.V because colour is the main factor here as not recognized colour so why the 2 if its not the same?

Danby,
They are two completely different classifications, they are not the same.
The AOV class is for a breed or variety that the schedule does not have specific breed classes for.
If a show did not have classes for say Cochins, then they have to be entered in the AOV class, in this case the schedule could have an AOV Soft Feather Light & AOV Soft Feather Heavy, in which case they are a heavy breed and are entered in AOV SF Heavy.
The AOC classes are for colours other than specified major or popular colours catered for in the schedule. You may have Blue Leghorns. The schedule could have seperate classes for Black, White and AOC.In this case the AOC class caters for ALL colours other than those specified with thier own colour class.Your Blues would be entered in Leghorn AOC( you would state the colour so if sufficient Blues were entered the club may provide a seperate colour class).
If there were classes for Black and White Leghorns only then your blues would have no Leghorn class provided for which they are eligible. In this case they would be entered in the AOV SF Light as Leghorns are classified a Light breed.
At times the schedule would only have only one AOV class, not specified Heavy or Light, just an all in AOV class. In this case then the examples given above, Cochins and Blue Leghorns would both be entered in this class and compete against each other.

Big thanks. That certainly clarifies the matter for me.

It will certainly be interesting to see the new Australian Standard and see if any additions have been made.
