How do you tell the sex of guinea fowl apart from their call

I have had good success putting eggs under a broody bantam, and she was a good mother when they hatched.

its worth a try.

Bantam hens are perfect for hatching them and they are good mothers which is completely the opposite to guinea fowl mothers that are hopeless

Which are best in the bantams to use? please don;t say silky as I hate them

Sorry that is all I have, beautiful chinese silky bantams, they are cute, don't lay many eggs but are fun to have around and make great mothers :-D

I have heard some people sex them only by the call sound they make and not by appearance to me that sounds like a loose way of doing it? what do you guys think of this?

The BEST way to accurately sex young guinea fowl is surgically sexing the second BEST way is by gender characteristics as in WATTLES, now you may read that 1 or 2 ill-informed novices say "Call is the only reliable method" this is absolute and utter crap and proof they no absolutely nothing about guinea fowl and should NEVER give any advice out. This is one of the negatives on the internet people like those idiots giving out blatant stupid and false information based on no knowledge or experience. The BEST way to sex guinea fowl is by WATTLES they are vastly different between the cockbirds (males) and hens (females) 109% of the time. This topic viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6634&view=previous clearly shows the different wattles in the sexes and "this IS always the case". You can sex them from 8 weeks from the WATTLES but you CANNOT by call and anyone that claims otherwise will be WRONG far more time than not and that is a fact! The call comes latter and is the lessor way of sexing and not used by the good breeders as the primary way of sexing, far from it. The best advice is NOT to listen to idiots that make these stupid claims and stay clear of chicken sites that dabble in other poultry and get it wrong so so many times. You can tell by the call "buck wheat" when they are full grown females at 9 months but any moron knows that its when they are keets you want to know and you are correct its only done by the wattles
