Oh ok so I will have to put a roof on the new coop I was hoping not too but I can't afford to feed the crows

A bit of planning works out more economical in the long run, so you are not feeding any unwelcome guests.

Don't forget to rodent proof the flooring, mice and rats like to feast on the feed too

And then there are the foxes who don't eat the feed but the chooks, but they are all separate topics...

hello i was looking for help on wether magpies will steal chickens eggs or not?

we have a large family of magpies and they go into the coop and we think they may be stealing egg is that what they do?

A chicken egg would be too big for it to carry off intact, a magpie would need to break it and consume it on the spot, in which case there should be evidence of broken eggs. Have you noticed anything like that? They are more likely interested in the feed you have out for the chooks. I know I have a problem with Indian Turtle Doves and bloody Indian Mynas getting into my run for the feed.

i have not noticed egg shell in the coop so perhaps worrying about nothing i have not seen them eat the laying pellets but surprised they would i will keep watching them i think

Magpies might be after the resident mice, I doubt they'd bother with eggs or with your chook's feed. They do have their pride after all.
And by the way Magpies and crows are not related, not even to currawongs.

If they just go for the mice that will be good we have a few now

Will crows eat week old chicks if they are with their mum out on the grass. We have a large number of crows and these are the first baby chickens we have had

Don't let them out until they are a few weeks old just to play it safe
