actually my green peafowl come straight to me when i come next to the pen. I suppose it's because when i bought them at 5 months old it was still easy to make them calm down to a point were they aren't scared anymore

I might look into the heavier duty mesh. We have a lot of big gum trees on our place and big branches fall every now and then, so maybe something a bit tougher than usual would be a good idea.

Congratulations on your new Peachicks , Deb , I have Heavy Duty Nylon , which is sort of like Shadesail material over mine now, The only things I can add to what everyone has allready said is,is give them plenty of room and maybe a few plants , or Branches/Brushes to make them feel at home , Ian

I've tested one native grass plant in a pot with them and they seem to have left it alone so far, so I'm looking forward to planting the yard properly for them. :-D

Can anyone point me to a supplier of any of the nylon roofing meshes?

Check ot your Local Upholtsterer/Canvasser or shadesail maker They will be able to get it heaps cheaper than any of us, and in Really large Pieces Tell them you don't need it Finished, as you can fold it back and nail it , I originally had Shadecloth over mine but pulled it all Down and changed it to shadesail material , It's amazing how much cooler it keeps the pens , and even Breaks the heavy rain down to a mist , It will keep your peafowl very happy , Ian

I got a quote on shade sail but it was going to work out too expensive, and I would need more structural support than we are planning for a "temporary" pen.

I've just got a quote on some indoor cricket netting (will just have to check if it is UV stabilised, I guess.......) 48 ply at around $4/square metre. It comes in one big piece (10m x 12m) which should be perfect for what we need.

We have an existing post and rail horse yard, so the plan is to attach some 70mm x 45mm treated timber uprights 1800 high around the rails and attach chicken netting to a height of 1800. Then we will have the nylon netting from the top of the fencing mesh across the roof. We just have to work out how to attach it, and how to support it in the middle of the yard (it's an 8m span). I guess we will need to have a bit of a slope on it so that some sticks etc can slide off (although I know a lot will get stuck in the netting) - that's where the shade sail stuff would be better because more stuff would slide off it. I might check that out a bit further......

Any other suggestions/photos of other people's enclosures showing supports and methods of attaching roofing mesh would be most welcome!!!!

I don't really know what I'm talking about, but perhaps a couple of tall, solid posts along the centre line (circus tent style) would raise and support the netting and allow leaves and stuff to find a way off.

Thanks, Charles. I think we might have to do that.

I've had another look at shade sails, and they all say you would need massive structures to support such a large area against the wind, so I've settled on netting. Just trying to get the best price now.
