What are your thoughts on plastic chicken coops?

Funky Eco Plastic Hen House 2 - 4 Hens

Great alternative to a wooden chicken coop, this hen house is made in the UK from recycled plastic and comes in a choice of colours too. There are 3 sizes of hen house are available plus options for a run and legs to raise it off the ground. A bright idea for garden hens!

This chicken house is suitable for up to four bantams or a pair of larger birds.

The door is designed so that it won't trap dirt in the door slots, and it can be easily opened and closed. Access to inspect the birds can be gained via a full width back door which detaches using quick release pins. When the door is removed, there is no 'lip' on the floor edge. This, and the fact that the roof removes in seconds as well, makes regular cleaning a breeze. Access to the nesting box is quick and easy – just remove two quick release pins. And the nest box lid can be completely removed for cleaning by undoing two more quick release pins.

Four fully adjustable circular vents provide plenty of ventilation. Even though the sides are made from black plastic, the house remains surprisingly cool, even in strong, direct summer sunlight.

Being plastic, there are few crevices for pests to hide in, and the house can be thoroughly cleaned very easily – in seconds if you have a pressure washer. And it will dry out very quickly, too.

Carry handles are cut into the roof, so it is easy to move. But, even if you need to dismantle your hen house for any reason, perhaps because you are moving house for example, you can easily do so and then rebuild it just as easily. Your hen house will not be damaged by this process.

Available with or without perches depending on the breed on hens you have.

The colour applies to the roof, the door and the nest box lid only, all other plastic parts are black.

There are also optional extras, of a run that attaches (again using quick release pins) to the front of the house, it comes in black only, and also a set of legs to raise your hen house off the ground, please add to your basket if you require any of these options.

I like the idea but do they last in the sun being plastic?

That was my concern. Getting hot in England is a bit different to getting hot here in Aus.
I also don't know how the birds would feel about walking on plastic.
But from a hygiene point of view they'd be easy to clean & less easy for mites to hide.

I would like to know if they are UV stable aslo I agree it would get very hot inside on a summers day here
