Hi all,

I'm curious as to how common grizzled coloured muscovies are.
My current batch of ducklings (about 12 weeks old I think) are just gaining their adult plumage, and a couple of them have very distinctly barred feathers.
I'll take some photos soon and post them up for all to see.
Can anyone else out there tell me if they have, or have seen Muscovies with this plumage variation, and how common it is?
Cheers,
Calvin.

Here are some pics of my Muscovy flock.

There are some there that have what looks like a pale brown colour. Whether this will translate into the adult plumage I am unsure of yet.
Mum 1 is the youngest of the three ducks (one year old), the other two mums are the same age (about 3 years)
The Drake is actually a very pale grey colour which doesn't show up in the photo too well. Also, he is a bit dirty as well.
The young 'uns are progeny of the three ducks, as they all went down at the same time. I can't be sure who is whos ducklings.
The two older ducks are good mothers, two seasons ago, they built a common nest, and both sat on it at the same time.
They managed to hatch out just over thirty ducklings in that sit alone. They have also hatched out two clutches in a season, and were on their way to a third. I had to intervene though as I was a bit inundated with Mussies by that stage,
They are truly feathered rabbits.
Enjoy the pics.
Cheers,
Calvin.

Hi Stuart,

not entirely, he is a very pale grey and white colour. Sorry, I have failed to mention that in previous posts. Sorry if it was misleading. An oversight on my part.
I have raised him since he was hatched by one of my hens.
When he hatched, he was a very pale grey and yellow colour, and as he grew, he kept the grey/white colouring.
I suppose technically, he isn't a full self lavender/blue or whatever colour standard you might call it. But when he is clean, there are some very distinct grey markings on him.
His wings are more white though, and also, he is very dirty.
I'll be getting him cleaned up soon, and some photos posted here for you guys to see.
Whatever colour he is, he has certainly thrown out some interesting coloured progeny.
Keep an eye on this space for the photos soon.

Hi Calvin

I've enjoyed your pics thanks. Your dake does look to be white in the photo, but colour like type, can be hard to judge from pics. More importantly, your drake and ducks look to be of quite good type compared with a lot of other birds I have seen in the southern states. Your drake has those nice full, broad rounded shoulders, and the ducks also look to have substance and type. Interested to know where they came from originally.

Don't see, or at least I havn't seen too many barred birds around my area. Did see a duckling the other day. I can best describe it as looking a bit like a siamese cat, that is yellow body with dark points. Don't see them too often here though.

Thanks again
