Swans

I am not sure if the forum covers Swans but I have been seeing an advert on farmstock for many months selling Swans and it has me interested but I have little knowledge of their keeping requirements, they were just a bird I through bread to as a kid but now I have a very large dam with a few duck it got me thinking

I share your interest, beautiful birds.
You are welcome here, all interested in any feathered species find friends here.
No doubt there are others here who keep them and can give you info on the subject.
I know as a native bird you will need to keep them "under licence" from I think Parks and Wildlife, the vendor on Farmstock will be able to assist you as to where and how you apply.
Perhaps Google, Parks and Wildlife and see what comes up.

Hi,

I love swans absolutely beautiful birds. You need a specialist wildlife lic for them as far as I am aware and their keeping requirements are not much different to geese except for the water. We have black swans out here naturally and they breed every year in a large dam even one of their offspring has come back this time.

White (mute) swans are available in Aust. You don't need a licence, but definitely a good bank balance. Around $5000 a pair.

Thank you all I will make some enquiries today. The ones advertised are black swans I could not afford the white even though they are beautiful all the same

If you after Mute swans I have a mate that breeds a few each year and he sells them for $2000 a pair let me know
