It is Interesting that they have included the Himalayen Monal in the 2007 census, unless everybody knows something i dont?

Not necessarily. It just means someone claimed to have them. The authorities didn't have the time or resources to confirm all such claims so they concentrated on certain species- mainly parrots.

Of course someone may have smuggled some eggs in at some stage and they may be here. But I think it's more hope than fact. The last few birds that I was aware of were all cocks and died out years ago.

I hope I'm wrong!

The census is verified to my knowledge so its likely that if they appeared on the census then they did exist at that time

I know of several species on the 2007 list which were here as skins only- and other species that were here and not registered because the owners did not want to be hassled by government authorities and risk having them confiscated.

I'm not saying that they're definitely not here. Just that at times you have to take these things with a grain of salt- a guide-yes; 100% accurate-no!

I take little notice of these census results purely because of what is counted such as skins and to my knowledge no one goes out and checks all the results
