blue is a dilution of black. two dilutions of blue gives you silver. lavender is a recessive gene. you can do the test matings yourself against a black bird.

blue into black = 50% blue %50 black offspring.

lavender into black = 100% black

again just because a bird looks in your opinion like a "lavender" doesnt make it a lavender. i have silvers that look lavender at the end of their moult, they are however silver. :-D

Yeh I actually meant visually they look lavender but may not be in the genetic sense

i know, but if they visually look lavender and arent genetically lavender then they are obviously not lavender, they are blue that look lavender in your opinion.

Right or wrong 99% of duck owners go on phenotype so in their eyes what looks lavender is lavender but I agree is not in most cases. Do you have the genetics of both blue and lavender to post for comparison?

edited slightly but still the same answer = I think it needs to be reinforced that Blue is not Lavender no matter how much some of the pale Blues look like it to the human eye = and across ALL breeds not just Muscovys

this is a lavender from overseas

the drake on the top right is a fume or smokey or whatever it gets called, whatever the name its blue and bronze together. the duck at the front is blue

silver duck

i think that when the colours are pied the white dilutes the colur a bit making it paler and causing more confusion.

The first one looks silver to me even though it is a lavender to me the colours of silver and lavender are blurred and not a lot of distinction between them here in Australia and yes adding pied does not help

i've bred a couple of dozen silvers here the past couple of years, mine are all a lighter shade than the lavender pictured.
