Lucern-Charf

Hi All,
Being winter now and not much grass around for my geese can I feed them lucern-charf as a supplement?

I've read lucerne chaff can definitely be good for green pick. They may not take to it straight away, but it wouldn't hurt to keep offering it and I'd say whatever is left over would be good for the compost too!

Don't forget the local greengrocer can be a good source of left over cabbage, lettuce, spinach etc etc

Lucerne is good for them if & when they eat it, mine do but it took a while. I have 2 green grocers well trained they have all the green leaves packed in a box and ready every Saturday and the cost $0 nice!

I feed mine Lucerne Chaff all the time - they love it - mine grew up with it so was easy = leave it out and they will eat it eventually - especially once the grass is gone in the fields

I forgot to add - you can always make a mash using poultry pellets and Lucerne Chaff =
mix 50/50 add enough tepid water to cover the mix adding more as needed = geese prefer a little water extra to 'play in' as they eat a mash
stir every few minutes allow the pellets to fully absorb the water creating a true 'slop type mash' with a bit of excess water in the mix
then serve - just make sure you stand back tho or you make get knocked over in the rush

if you want them to eat just dry chaff =
each day increase the chaff amount reduce the pellets and amount of water = within a week [maybe 2 depending on yr birds] yr birds are eating straight chaff :-D

forgetful moment had me botherd tho - hence the extra post with how I conned mine years ago

now if they see a bucket they come running

dont always get anything tho :lol:
