can muscovy's ducks fly?

Hi there can muscovy's ducks fly? also can a muscovy x mallard fly? I want to let them out but I don't want them to fly away

only the girl moscoves can fly but the boys moscoves can`t.

Yes they can most females can fly and males can when they are young but most cant once theri older than 12 months

i find once they get to about 6-8 months they get to lazy and don't fly any more.
not sure about the muscovy x mallard, but they would be a hybrid and seeing that they are muscovy crosses they would be infertile.

I think size of the muscovy helps. I have a male over 12 months old, who isn't as huge as some muscovies get and he flies very well. Its always low the ground but he'll fly from one end of the yard to the other to make sure he's first in line for treats. He sounds like a helicopter taking off.

I lost my female muscovies over the neighbours fence a couple of times but I clipped one wing and they've stayed put since. Every now and then I've seen them try to fly but its very clumsy and they only go a foot or two.

They do tend to want to stay around their place and I think sometimes they end up where they shouldn't by accident rather than design. Then they pace back and forth wanting to come back again!

If your ducks are outside and in an environment where there might be predators, being able to fly might be the only way they can stay safe, so if you are going to clip a wing, you'll need to make sure they are 100% safe. If you're going to show them then clipping a wing isn't an option for you though.

Young muscovy ducks [female] can fly very well and some drakes but as mentioned as they fatten the drakes do the walking

the guys are right , as a bird matures it will try and fly, some can do a very good job at it, , once they get a bit of weight on them it seems to ground them , but i have seen were some small strain mussie girls fly well even when mature ,

a friend of mine had some out in the bush who were semi tame, they were use to flying ,

Yep they can fly alright! They also like to perch at night!
Most of my muscovey females over the years have been found at night time lined up next to the chooks on the perch or on top of anything else they can find including nest drums, chook feeders etc. I have one old girl who likes to hop up on the 7 foot garden arch & just look around the yard during they day keeping an eye on things LOL
