still air or forced air?

Hi I am looking at incubators and would like to hear your preference between still air or forced air? Which is the best option there?

One with a fan will always be better than a still air

Yes fan forced is definantly better because it keeps an even temp throughout the incubator I would recommend you go with fan forced every time

I just bought a cheapy on ebay (seller was in china) I know! I know! Beware of cheap imports. But hey they're all made in china or taiwan etc anyway. Probably the same factory that makes the "Australian direct to public machines" They look identical at a third the price. If you can decipher the bad english translation you're half way there.

I'm doing a test run now. 2 Days down.. So long to go. Eggs were 10 days old. Just! Fingers crossed.

It's Fan forced, auto turning every 2 hours, day counter, temperature and humidity gauges and holds 48 eggs. With all the wasted $'s from the posted eggs that ended up with bad broodys I thought it was worth a go.

Well, for us it was "which one uses the least electricity and can also be attached to a battery if the sun isn't shining?" as we're off the electricity grid. No fancy stuff like turners and fans :-D

I am a real newbie at this, but have had good results with the hovabator. 90% hatching, and that includes some 'rescue eggs' left lying in the mud around the dam.
It isn't huge though - wouldn't put more than a dozen in there.

I hear you Alison. You need some good broodys then you wouldn't have to worry about power. :-D

I'm limited with numbers so don't want to keep birds just for broodiness.

Don't pay the full price. I used the make an offer feature and got it for $160 plus postage. Google the model and you will find australian sellers asking $375 plus postage.

Someone should come up with a solar powered bator? I use fan also and is better than my old still air which I had ok success but the fan is much better

Is there much of a cost difference between them? I don't have an incubator but would like to get one

There is a lot of difference in the price of automated and manual incubators. The number of eggs you want to incubate makes a difference too. If you're not slack like me you can get them on ebay for less. :-D
