FERTILE EGG question

Gday I am thinking of selling off my extra fertile eggs this year and was wondering if you sell say 1 doz and not all of them hatch do you send more eggs,refund a few $'s.If I buy eggs and they dont hatch I put it in the o'well had to try,what is the general idears of other people.Thank you .GRAHAME

If it was me buying them - I'd be in the o'well school of thought. As long as the ratio of hatching ones to non hatching was better. Good luck. What sort of eggs by the way?

Hi Grahame, It's the luck of the draw to a point, if a person is buying 1 doz fertile eggs and only 50% hatch so be it, the seller can't be responsible for the Incubation of the eggs. If the eggs are candled and zero are fertile, that's a different story & the seller should do the right thing and send more or refund.

I do check fertility before I send eggs from those birds, that way you can say fertility is 80% or whatever. When I have bought eggs I expect at least 50% fertility and at least that or more hatch rate so that way from a dozen eggs I would expect 4-6 chicks, anything more is a bonus

Thank you everyone for your answers, looks like were all in the same minds as to at least 1/2 should hatch,so now I can sell eggs from my guinea fowl,dorkings,belgian,bantam austrolops and that will do till I hatch a few of the other breeds.cheers till next time GRAHAME

Gday Jeff,We live in Walcha NSW 100km to Tamworth and about the same to Armidale its a small village of about 1800 but a good poultry club I am trying to keep as many rare breeds as we can but the weather is not to kind up here we might get 35deg one day and snow for a week in the summer then frost in winter for 20 days straight but we are building insulated chook sheds now.Our biggest problem is with combs on roosters from frost bite(you can't show arooster with a frost bite comb)Where are you from.regards GRAHAME
