Humidity trouble

I usually keep a water bottle in my incubator to help with temperature stability in it when it is not full of eggs. Any way the bottle broke flooding the incubator pushing humidity up to 80% and the temp down to about 35.9 for 12 hours or so. Will this drown the embryo's as they are 10 days.

The book I have on parrot rearing says excessive humidity makes the air sac in the egg smaller and can make it hard for the baby to hatch because they are supposed to be able to pip the egg where the air sac is and if the air sac is too small, they can't reach, and pip the shell where the fluid is and drown. I think chicken eggs would probably be the same but they were talking about if the humidity is too high for the entire incubation period.

I reckon there is no need to worry. 1/2 a day of high humidity...not even an issue.

I'd be concerned about half a day of sub-36 degree temperature though. But, again, I don't think it is likely to be fatal.

My prediction: As many will hatch as would have hatched if this didn't happen.

Prediction2: Some other members WILL disagree.

I haven't been able to get the Kevatron above about 45% humidity for any period of time this past couple of weeks. Maybe I should splash some water around the bottom. :-D

Well these chicks are not ment to hatch along with the humidity trouble, the power went out and the temp dropped down to 22. Friday will be the day if anything happens :roll:

Those that hatch will be capable of swimming Bass Strait in the middle of Winter.

Hello Shona and Greenaus
Just letting you know it's Thursday night and i have 2 Bass Strait swimmers,
1 hatched through the day and the other at about 7pm W.A. time. After the power was out on Sunday i thought they would never hatch :-D

i just realised that I'm a day ahead, the first 2 hatched on Wednesday and another 9 today,(maybe i should have watched for the power ball numbers last night [smilie=a_rolling.gif]

That's 11/14, tomorrow is the due date so I'm happy about that with 2 more pipping [smilie=18_13_1.gif]
