Last year I started incubating my large black Australorp eggs and had some wonderful help from the members here, many thanks!

I got a few emails from people asking about my incubator so I wanted to do a post and let you know since it has been 6 months. It is a DIGITAL JANOEL AUTO TURN 48 EGG INCUBATOR that I got off ebay. I would have to say the design is excellent for a novice like myself. It has a plastic tray that is easy to clean when you are finished and great digital display to keep track of humidity and temp. It has foam casing around the outside which keep it warmer in winter. I think it was extremely economical at the time however buying an electrical appliance overseas I am sure wasn't one of my best moves. The seller was difficult to understand and deal with which has made me reluctant to recommend this product till now as I am sure any warranty would not be honoured by this man however yesterday I found there is an Australian distributor. I sent an email with some questions not expecting a reply and he was unbelievably helpful. He went well out of his way to contact the company for information. I thought this was especially outstanding as I am not even a customer. He also has an Australian 12 month warranty and though you could save yourself a few dollars buying overseas directly, if you have a warranty problem you may be lumped with your overseas one if they won't honour the warranty or up for really expensive shipping to get it fixed that at the end of the day would save you nothing or worse still end up paying a lot more. Other thing I learned is there is copies out there so you if you are not care you can end up with a shonky copy. At the end of the day and what is really important is that my hatch rate has been really good. Almost all my fertile eggs hatch and until yesterday (unrelated problem I lost 2x 4 day old chicks) I have had strong healthy chicks without any problems. I haven't had experience with any other incubators so i am unable to compare anything to it but for a backyardie like me, 48 is a good number and the price is right.
I usually only get 1/2 fertility as my boy is looking after 14 girls (way too many) but that doesn't worry me as everyone is happy, it is just great what is fertile is hatching well. It is also good to know if I need to replace or fix my unit I have some great support here in Australia and I am happy to recommend the unit and his warranty. I hope you find that helpful
