What did I do wrong ?

I had 3 chook eggs that started to hatch , the first egg cracked at the top and hatched out no problems, the other 2 both started to crack at the bottom!, I checked all 3 eggs last night all where in the same hatching time (just cracked the shell) this morning number 1 was out all ok and 2 and 3 were both dead with no further development of hatching !

what has happend ?

Sadly some chicks just don't make it out when hatching

For what ever reason they just don't make it all the way through, they are weaker and it's the survival of the fittest.

Don't feel guilty, these things happen some times it is for the best.

I think its so important to feed the parents well before they start to lay the fertile eggs they go really good if you do

Thanks Burgoff, I hadnt even considered diet making a difference in my hatch rate ? My Girls free range all day and mostly pellets and wheat when I lock them up at night.

Can I ask, were your eggs under a broody hen or in an incubator?

Hi Chicka-Dee, I have just started using an R-Com 20 incubator, starting to think I am doing things wrong ! I run at 45% humidity then 65% for the last 3 days , I just did a batch of jap quail 50 eggs 27 hatched and 16 still born (fully formed but didnt hatched)! any suggestions ? I am willing to try just about anything ?

Hi Lowey

I had this problem too. From advice on the forum and googling this is what helped me.

Check your gauges. The settings could be out.
Once the temperature was right I found candling the eggs to check if the air cell is the size it should be the most helpful. Mine was running way to high.
