jap quail eggs

Are jap quail eggs easy to hatch in an incubator? how many times do I need to turn the eggs a day? cheers

I hatched a few and always had a good hatch rate, even with posted eggs.

I turned mine, but have heard of people getting a good hatch rate without turning them at all.

Turning is essential, even if only twice a day. Turning is required to distribute nutrients evenly to the embryo. Without turning, hatching rates will be significantly lower. The exception is in the last 24-36 hrs when turning should cease to allow the chick to position itself into the airspace for pipping.

Thats what I have always thought, but I have heard of someone who has had success with not turning jap Quail eggs.

I can turn them 2 times a days so thats not a problem I was worried it had to be like 4 or more per day and I cant do that with work

Do like the rest of us with work and other commitments, only turn twice daily, morning and night.
I have never turned more than that and for that reason disconnected the auto turn finding the constant turning and relying on mechanical turning only had poor results, the eggs of any species turn and twist ending up in peculiar positions or worse jamming and cracking or breaking.
So retreated to the tried and true of twice daily manual turning and left the incubator undisturbed in the hours between.
It has an advantage in that you can monitor conditions and the eggs and not find that moisture has fallen , water tray dried out or some other disaster has occurred like a heat lamp blown, even if it has you have a few hours grace to correct things and salvage the situation.

Have you ever tried a small bantam hen to hatch the quails eggs, would that work do you think?

I think a chicken would break the eggs as they are much thinner shell than a chooks egg
