thanks for sharing Ian. When you say manual turning...how often do u do it? Thanks for your advice mate. : )

I an told me twice a day morning and night but as I am home I turned 3 times a day. With the piece of welmesh in the bottom on the other metal tray I put them in at about 45 deg angle (Ian's advice again) and turned them by just rocking them back one way for one turn then the other on the small end. I laid mine down on non slip matting at day 18 and then didn't touch them. I think Ian does it a bit different.

I did find though that the humidity was quite high and the chicks took for ever and a day to dry out. I put them into the brooder after 24 hours anyway. I also found here in Qld I only needed to put water in the small water area as the humidity was far to high if I filled the large one instead.

Do you find that Ian? Which water area do you use?

I use both water rings , But the humidity does get a little high , I don't worry about it to much as I am getting a very good hatch rate , I do only turn mine morning and night , and stop turning them after day 18 , and the mesh to hold them at 45degrees works a treat , It makes it Really easy and quick to turn them and holds them up in just the right position

Is it possibly to post pictures as it sounds interesting, I don't have a Bellsouth but I am guessing this all could be applied to a hovabator. [smilie=a_teeth.gif]

hey ian and cl...i hate to be a dummy but i don't understand how the mesh works????? to keep the eggs at 45 degrees.......

Hi Darren, I didn't understand either. Ian showed me when I went up for a visit. I have taken photos and waiting approval by admin to give you an idea on how I do it at Ian's instruction. Gee I hope I got it right. If not the master will correct me I hope. This is what I did and it worked for me. I still set the sensor and thermo at the top level of the eggs. When I laid my eggs down for hatching I had to move the level of the sensor and thermo to match the top of the eggs again. This is the bit I think Ian does different to me.

PS I could take photo easily as my incubator has been cleaned and waiting the next lot of eggs. Not the models I used for the photos. More upmarket than those ones :lol:

I hope to re set the incubator next week. I need some breathing space with all the chicks I have with this hatch.

Ok, photos have been uploaded.

This is a photo pf the weldmesh in the incubator before the eggs are in place. The weldmesh just sits flush on top of the existing mesh.

Then to turn them just rock them over and vise versa everytime you turn them. So much quicker and easier.

Thanks Ian. I was a bit worried I may have got something wrong. I even had to cut my weldmesh myself. Hubby won't come near me when I am holding the grinder anymore :roll:

I wonder why :shock:
