Incandescent Light Bulb Shortage

Thanks for all the advise in this topic people.
This was one thing that really worried me about the decision the government made about changing the light bulbs. I thought their decision was a bit rash and they hadn't thought of what we were to do with our incubators and brooders. Maybe they didn't consider us...who knows...I'm just glad that we do have unternatives.
Our babies aren't going to get left in the cold after all.

Hi all.

I've been looking for incubator parts and came across these. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pair-of-10-watt-h ... m153.l1262 it's ebay (UK). Would they be OK to replace incandescent globes, of course the connection would be different, but I can't see these sort of globes being phased out, I don't think they're that common anyway.

Just checking out all my options.

I have no ‘hands on’ knowledge with this type of globe
although I do know they are still available in OZ atm
but honestly -'Mr Howard' has probably ordered these off the shelves too

All I can say is wait to see if anyone else out there can tell with surety that they are safe for chicks

I havent seen them before so I don't know either , I have got one of those red Thingamagiggy things that soozorps has , and the rest of mine are incandescents ,I tried playing with other bulbs but no Luck , I thought I'd try the energy saving ones and went out about an hour later to find all my babies huddled around the bulbs Freezing their down off , So that was a short lived trial , at the moment I have two silikes and a Brahma sitting , Now thats energy Saving

they are Ceramic Infra-red - but I think Thingamagiggy works just as well :lol:

I can still remember when I was Young The Oldies had a Cream Shed converted into a Brooder It had a Flood light suspended from the roof that hung about a foot off the floor , It was nothing to have 200+ chickens in their ,It was the biggest brooder I've ever seen , It must have chewed the power but back then I suppose Electricity was a lot cheaper .

couple metal halides would work wonders.

I too have been wondering about this, I have found some bulbs in the local corner shops but the IGA here hasn't any of them anymore.

I only have a dozen in the brooder at most at one time.
