Incubator Question

Wafer thermostats seem to be the biggest issue with Hova's. Which is a shame as they are smaller and just as easy as the Bell to use with the same capacity.

If they sorted the wafer out they'd have a great product in the Hova.

I have a still air one and a fan forced one---and 1 auto turn---the plan was to be that the still air one without auto turner would be used as a hatcher----but I find the fan forced hatches much much better ,I have taken the auto turn out to fit in more eggs at the peak of the season but it does make it easy-----can I suggest a third option a fan forced bator plus auto turn :-D

if it has to be one of your choices I would take the fan forced over the still air anyday :-D

I will say Bellsouth manual turn , I don't mind turning the eggs by hand I always seem to find time evn though theirs never enough hors in the day , I like turning mine by hand it gives me a feel of whats going on , I think it's the mother hen in me :lol:

I have got an auto turner but I don't use it and prefer the manuals .

Alice I would recommend automatic, you can not remember 100% of the time, so this is a safe bet, also ensure you get a good temperature gauge and hyrometer.

It is better to have an incubator bigger than you need than to need a bigger incubator than what you have. Personally I hate incubators, I use good setting hens and hatch a higher percentage than an incubator does and I don't need a brooder either.

I don't use an incubator either but only because I can't afford one :lol:

I would like to give it a try one day when the finances are better :-?

I have the foam type Hova-Bator and its pretty good but the temperature does go up and down a bit

Do the foam ones last? I have wondered if they go brittle after a couple of years. They are much cheaper as I have wondered what the catch is.

They don't seem to go brittle, I've had 2 hovas for nearly 5 years, but beware if you have a cat! :lol:

Mine loved to sharpen her claws on it :cry:

Once she landed on one and buggered the lid. I've just recently upgraded to a Maino auto turn which I love! :-D

I still use the hova to hatch out in, they still work very well after all they have been through, even the one with the broken lid, I just taped it back together :lol:

And I bought both my hovas from the US. Was a bit of a gamble, but for the price of one in Australia I got two including airfreight.
