Well I'll be..................

She was sitting on 17 eggs,1 she accidentally bought off the nest with her and I found it in the yard broken last week (ravens maybe).

Today she left the nest with 1 Polish baby....go figure the rotten cow.

Other 15 eggs are in incubator and I'll candle tonight so see how they are doing.

Not sure if I want to throttle her of hug her at the moment.

Oh well, that's one lovely baby! You do wonder what goes on in their little minds at times, though.

I hope some of the other eggs come through for you.

Deb :-D

The very same thing has happened to me. I have quite a lot of chooks and I thought I new all of them but it seemed I didn't because one of my little girls suddenly appeared with 7 little ones. I was quite upset I didn't even notice she had gone.

At the rate we eat eggs I think we don't have enough chickens. The wife says we do but she still has to buy eggs from the supermarket. My way of thinking it would be cheaper to feed more chicken than to buy eggs and they taste better. Jack

ofcourse they taste better Jack th_clap.gif

since I settled here, and had chookies (as an adult) for the last 11 years, I have not bought one egg (except fertile ones ofcourse :-D )

I just love collecting the eggs every day, and getting a great sense of satisfaction from looking at the basket full of different egg colours, and sizes....

I went to visit a man today who gave me some broody chooks.... he said he started with 3 chooks he was given, he would now have about 100!!!!!!!. He said the girls hide their eggs everywhere, so he always has new chicks running around... the chooks are just a pretty bantam cross, it was quite an experience to see so many chooks sitting on eggs in different places around his sheds.

I'm beginning to wonder if I have too many. Almost every time I go near the place where I buy the feed, I ask myself if I should grab a bag or two. The answer is more often YES than it was a few months ago. Sometimes the answer is "three". Last Friday it was "four and bale of wood shavings".

Anyway...
