G'day,
I am a new member to this forum and I do not know where to place this topic.
I have been after some Khaki Campbell fertile eggs. I found a seller in Victoria. Two doz eggs plus postage to Qld $60.00 In good faith I deposited the money into the account. When the eggs arrived, they were all smashed apart from one that was cracked. I phoned the seller to complain about the packaging. I said I would pay what he considered a good price for a replacement for one doz eggs. I deposited $30 into his account for the replacement for one doz eggs, not two that in my opinion that is what he should have agreed to. When the eggs arrived in perfect condition I sent him am e-mail thanking him for sending them appropriately this time. I took special care to ensure that they were placed in my incubator with all the requirements for duck eggs. I have just candled them and not one egg has any indication that they are fertile. Considering that it equates to $7.70 per egg. I want to know what I can do to inform other honest people to avoid unscrupulous people

So set last Wednesday. Five days.

While I have candled chook eggs at 4 days with limited success, I usually candle first at 7 days now (1/3 of the incubation period). Even then I'm sometimes not 110% certain of development. I personally wouldn't candle duck eggs at 5 days.

I'd assume that KC eggs requiring 28 days incubation would be best candled at about 9 or 10 days.

I could be wrong and I'm sure others will say so (after all, I've never incubated duck eggs...turkey eggs, yes; duck eggs, no).

Sadly not much as to 'name names' leaves you open to potential prosecution - any such post would be removed as it is defamatory regardless of any truths behind it and it also breaches the terms and conditions of use of this and ALL other forums on all topics/subjects right down to car forums  scarey thought that = a car forum!!

I used to own Kyuga and Pekin and never candled I just left the incubator shut to keep humidity etc levels correct - so essential but especially with water fowl until 4 and 2 days before due when I opened only long enough to lightly spray them to up the humidity in preparation for hatching - the eggs took between 26-28 days to hatch
I successfully hatch goose eggs by using the above method as well

I am giving them a light spay of water and keeping the humidity correct. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Perry the pom,

Something I am about to try is slow mail with eggs. I have spent a stack of money over the last few months on eggs from many different dealers and I have worked out if you get one that hatches, then you have done well. This might be due to express post taking the airplane?
I will soon get some and go slower mail and see if that makes a different?
Now if a seller doesn't put the eggs in a box to protect them, you have to ask, this is the best way. Then don't buy them.
Maybe a thread needs to be set up to give thumbs up on sellers of fertile eggs, when you are happy with rapping and cost?
feedback on sellers like ebay

This was a good site and what Jo says is worth a listen
http://www.jopoultry.com/aboutfertilepostage.htm

Hope this helps

I know I seem to be harping about auction sites on lots of forums recently BUT

AFP has an auction site that can be used to sell eggs and where ratings can be given. It's absolutely free! Just click on ONline Auctions at the top of the page.

And no one uses it bar me or at least it seems that way.

I'll shut up now. pc.gif

I'm still taking the risk with the post, but not this week.

Through another forum contacted a local about some silkie eggs, don't have any but I can buy week olds for $11,lol sure
Wanted to try pick up.
I did some driving around town and low and behold, asked someone I knew and got a dozen silkie eggs for nothing, didn't know what they had. Went to another town and a lady there has feather footed, beardies and head do, something, lol Think they are belgium deuccle, need to find out though, black, lavender, and brown with white spots, partridge I think you call it. But she was asleep, will go back and another person will drop off a mixed bundle later today,ha ha ha might be ducks in that lot.
All because I have one broodie and asked around, tomorrow I'll ask in other areas and see what I get.
In the next town we have a poultry judge, he into Rosecombs and Malay Game, he has over 300 birds, but I'm not into his kind of birds yet.lol
Okay to birth announcement

Oh and I will do the auction here when I have something to sell, like the sound of it......

Oh it's not you that has birth notices, oops
