Agree with everything H&H has posted.
If you follow the dose rates then there is no risk of overdosing with baycox & no side effects.
Don't worry about the sulphadim- a single overdose is unlikely to do much.

What happens to a chook if a chook is overdosed on worming or cocci medication? What symptoms would they present if they are over dosed? What can be done to help them recover if they were?

Thank you, kindly 52.gif

I would say they would be sick and probably lethargic and only time would tell.

It's not like you could give them more medication to fix them. And, if the drug was in their system then you wouldn't be able to get it out, so it would just be time!

You would have to wait and see if they got through it, and i would make sure they had plenty of fresh water available to drink to try and help ttheir little bodies cope with getting the drugs out of their system.

Okay

So my chicks are on day 2 of taking the Baycox and hopefully I have done the doses correctly in proportion to the ratio of how much Baycox to put in their water, and this morning there was still blood in their poo. Not alot, but still a little.

On the bright side their little tails have started to perk up and not be so droopy anymore.

The Baycox says to only do it for two 8 hour treatments, but I am unsure of what other positive signs to be looking for to know they're on the mend.

Parvo, is it usual for them to still have bloody poo the day after starting the Baycox treatment?

Best of luck and a speedy recovery for your babies Chicka-Dee. No one likes to see their birds unwell. th_Noooo.gif

I DIDN"T OVER DOSE MY CHOOKS ON MEDICATION, I ONLY ASKED A HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION.

I don't think that after one day of medication that the blood in their droppings would go away.

Good luck hope they get better soon.

Well

My babies have no more bloody poo & their tails are all perky today! woohoo4

Man, that Baycox stuff must be mega powerful! Considering you only put 3ml in 1litre of water I suppose says it all.

But, it also says you can do a follow up treatment 7 days later, so I am going to do that. Just to over all my bases.

Thanks PP,

I couldn't imagine you would ever overdose your babies. :-D

And I honestly didn't mean to over dose Clara but she squirmed and I squeezed her to try and stop her from getting away & I ended up squeezing the bottle as well, and she copped a gob full.

But she's all good now and like Parvo said it didn't do much.

Thanks for all your support everyone, especially you Parvo for letting me know about the Baycox.

Cheers
Chicka-Dee

Sorry I missed your other question Chicka-Dee.

Sometimes it takes the body time to recover from the damage done by the parasite so the blood may persist for a few days afterwards.

Well done for starting treatment early. In severe infections the birds may still die despite treatment.
All's well that ends well!

That's Cool Parvo [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif] I totally don't expect people to get back to me. This forum is so large and there are so many topics that you can join into, that's its easy to lose track!

I don't want to put my babies back in their old pen now as the ground is still very damp & due to the neighbors trees, the ground never gets any sun on it to dry up, so I have to wait for the wind to evaporate the moisture, so I'm scared I won't get the ground dry enough for a while (during winter) to be safe from the Cocci, if it is in the ground. As I don't want them to get sick again. Even though I now have the miracle cure!

For the time being they are sleeping in my Laundry, which is why you will see a photo of Clara sleeping on my washing machine in the Photo Gallery, that I have entered into the photo competition! She's so cute! I just want to cuddle her all the time! (sorry got a bit sappy there!). So until I find somewhere to house them, they free range all day & sleep in the laundry at night.

Not ideal, but I would do anything for my babies.

Cheers
Chicka-Dee
