PS they only get fowl pox once

and if you get the savlon onto it the scarring won't be bad .

Thanks so much, fantastic idea, I use tea tree and eucalyptus on the kids hair as a preventative for school and the tea tree is wonderful for keeping away infections. I can't believe I didn't think of it. Will get em tonight when they are settled

This has been worrying me as we have mozzies in plague at the moment. I check the flock every day for bites but so far nothing at least I know what to do now it I do see any sores

Last night I sprayed a solution of tea tree and Eucalyptus in my house. Old Harold didn't worry too much but the girls kind of shuffled around a bit. Getting to the point though, the mozzies hated it and where trying to get out. We live at a place called Ningi which in Aboriginal means mosquito's and I thought we would have more problems than we have had to date especially since we had a plague with all that rain/flooding several weeks back. you couldn't walk out the back door without being inundated with the blighters. Other than these spots they are very healthy and nice big chooks. So far these pox aren't too bad at all, just like kids getting em

My chooks have the pox too! Mozzies real bad here at the moment, I'm going to try the tea tree oil mixed with water and spray that around tonight. Yesterday we gernied out the entire hen house which has made a big difference also, then I sprayed surface spray all over the walls and ceiling. I have a couple of hens not so good, trying to nurture them back to good health. We've also been spraying the pox with betadine to help heal them

I only have 1 really bad one out of the whole 20. She is getting better and her scabs are starting to look dry and healing. The others seem to have only gotten a light dose. I mixed the tea tree with eucalyptus and it works fantastically. As soon as I spray it (do at night so not to stress them so much) the mozzies high tail it out of the coop. Not even conventional sprays seem to have worked that well! I am getting 13 eggs at the moment. I hope your gals are feeling better soon. Poor things I really feel for them

I did the tea tree oil and it works too, which is fantastic, so now my guy and gals can get a good night sleep. Most of my hens pretty good now, still 1 really bad one, not sure if she's going to get better... I'm having to give her water thru a dropper which she's not too keen on, and she hasn't eaten in 3 days

, but I'm still hoping, I also think not so bad as I have 33 hens. My egg totalls each day vary, as only 22 of my hens are "supposed" to be laying (I think a few are past it) I'm ranging from 8 to 12 each day....

Can I ask please do you mix 50/50 solution of tea tree and Eucalyptus and do you ad water at all. We still have a problem with mozzies and they are biting the dog’s ears but I already have spray for that. They usually only hang around for a couple of week not usually this long

Hi there
I actually made the solution straight but it was only a cheap brand from woolies which I think was probably watered down. I just sprayed my girls again last night. I just use it as a mist over them not wetting them but covering them and the house. Probably a little dearer than a spray but natural so the pesticides don't affect your girls
Hope that helps, reckon you could use it on just about any animal

Take care. The reason it works so well is because it's so toxic. It doesn't take much. Eucalyptus is much more toxic than Melaleuca. It works very well on the parasites, that's for sure, but I would be incredibly cautious with it. Of course, it depends how much they actually absorb. I know of people that have killed their birds by painting it on the legs to treat scaly leg mite.

Safer options would be Neem oil, or pyrethroids. I've used mosquitoes coils near the brooders at night and when I looked into those ingredients they were a pyrethroid which is fairly gentle as well.
