peacock problem

Hi all I am new to this site due to having 4 peacocks which we have never had before. The first one (male) just wandered in back in May and has stayed ever since. We felt sorry for him, so got him a girlfriend, much younger as girlfriends are hard to find. They didn't seem to mix so got her one of her brothers to keep her company and they get along famously. Back to keeping the first one company got another girl that became available. The 3 add ons are too young to breed this year, but he isn't. They all know where they live and have been allowed to roam. My question is should I give away one of the boys (would prefer to keep the oldest one) or will they all settle eventually.
They all have their special place in a big tree at night and have wandered once but came home again. At present we have the young pair that like each other locked up and the other two roaming in the hope that they will get together. Franny

I think you will find that if you let the young male out the older one will attack him and chase him off so my advice is not to let him out and yes maybe find a new home for him. You are best to start with 1 pair and then let them breed up naturally and they will all get on well

If you are going to try the mixing you MUST wait until after breeding and both peacocks have lost their trains and no interest in breeding then you stand a chance

So far the older one hasn't tried to attack the younger one who is immature and doesn't have a tail at all this year. Older one would have to be about 4 due to tail being about 4-5 feet long. He's a sweetie and shows off to the girls who couldnt give a damn as they are also too young this year. I know I should give up the older one but he's just so sweet. The other 3 would probably breed next year and are all friends. I dont care if they never breed just want them to stay and roam around our house. We have 5 acres. Franny

He has not attacked him because the other is locked up

NO you have that back the front the so called "older one" is the breeder and the one you should be keeping. Peacocks do not mature until they are 3 years old and they can live to 40 years old so a peacock at 4-5 years old is very young still basically a teenager and a peacock under 4 is a like a 6 year old child. If his train is close to 1.7 meters then he is older than 4 more likely 6-7 years old but that is young so keep him and sell off the juvenile peacock

P.s if he has no train then he's a first year juvenile and he won't breed next year either maybe the following year, maybe.

Thanks George, you have been a great help. Will let young male go and keep older one and the 2 females. They were only born last year as well. But at least will keep the old boy happy and he will have some company. Can you give me some idea when the breeding season will end. Franny

Depending on where you live but usually February is the last month but they can breed into march or they can end in january depend on the weather and amount of daylight hours

I'm in flagstone lockyer valley and ours usually breed to the end of jan or just into feb but last year they finished at the end of december because of the bad weather
